La publication de cette troisième édition, plus de trente ans après la première édition (1951), atteste le succès de cet essai qui a marqué une date importante dans les difficiles recherches sur la chronologie de l’ancien Israël à l‘époque royale, de 930 à 586 av. J.-C. … Le sérieux de cet essai chronologique n’a plus besoin d‘être souligné tandis que son ton souvent apologétique et triomphant appelle quelques remarques quant à la valeur soidisant définitive de la solution proposée, et cela tant au point de vue des principes de base que de leur application dans le détail.
